The Last Day Of March

With April being just one sleep away, I thought it would be nice to reflect on the past few months of cold and bitter weather. The boys have been busy sledding and ripping harder then ever, and the snow has been nothing but cooperative. Now that spring riding is inching closer, and the days are getting longer, it's hard to believe the winter is almost over. To keep your winter spirits alive, here's a quick glimpse of what goes on in the Whistler Wilderness...

So I've been an incredibly lazy person the last little bit. What, with all the Olympic hoopla, and parties and people, it can be a hard to focus for ten minutes to write something for you all to see.
The boys in Corner Brook have been hard at work shredding Marble and getting shots around the (now) snow covered city.
Rob is now fully recovered from his broken collar bone, just in time to ride some late winter pow in Whistler.
Benjie's been touring around the interior riding everything he comes across.
And here I am, writing and editing.

The Olympics Are Coming

With the Olympics arriving in just 2 days, we took the opportunity to do some filming around Whistler before the lockdown. With cops and military, and their helicopters and trucks patrolling the town like a warzone, we headed out to some secluded spots to get some shots. Thanks to Ian Turner for shooting the still. More pics on the way.

Snow? In Whistler? (Jan 19-20)

With my sled in the shop, and Benji's having a hard time starting, we decided to venture up Whistler to ride some pow. We made our way out to the backside of the Peak. With 40 km/h winds, nearly whiteout conditions, and a lot of gear, we managed to ride our way into the trees for some well deserved pow turns. With the help of Ian, we were able to find some fun stuff to hit.
Nothing better then a pow day with your friends...

Fries, Dressing, and Gravy (Jan 4-8)

Benji and I thought it would be a great idea to go visit Karl and his crew in Corner Brook, NFLD. Little did we know that, there would be very little snow on the rock. We went anyway.
Karl and his awesome girlfriend, Susan, picks us up in Deer Lake at 2 am and drove us back to their place, where we met Mike (or Kevin if you know him). The next day we did some scoping, getting up into the higher elevations to find some snow. We found a cool fridge jib to drop off a balcony, and that night we had almost 10 guys coming out to help make it happen. After the session, we all headed back to the pad for some lasagna and a good ol' fashioned Newfoundlander good time. Lots of drinks were passed around and Benji, Karl, and I got screeched in.
The next night, with our hangovers behind us, we had another big session. This time at Marble Mountain, hitting up an old pump house.
On January 7th, we found this steep 20 stair rail. with no snow on either side of the rail, and granular ice for the landing, Benji stepped up and got a nice 180 switch tail press. That night we partied hard again.
For our last day, the boys decided to take us on a 20km hike up the blow me down moutains. With Mike unable to even speak, let alone walk, and Benji dry heaving the whole car ride, we managed to make it to our destination. We made to the top of the mountain, and got a good ride down.
All in all, it was an amazing trip. I got to meet some rad people, and can't wait to get back there next year. Thanks to Karl, Susan, and Mike for letting us crash at your place. And Dru, Simon, Sean, and Gabe for the awesome experiences.

Getting Off On The Right Foot

So Whistler had an epic start to the season. Record snowfall, Early opening, and hardly a soul on the mountain. Then it rained. It rained all the way to the top of the mountain. Then it got cold. I mean really cold. So for the past week we've been riding on ice. We've been fortunate enough to get a lot of blue bird days, so we've been trying to make the most of it. 530 cm's fallen already. 220 cm's of base. I guess the powers that be really wanted everyone to get the most out of their winter before the olympics come to town. Sledding time has arrived, and everyone is scrambling to make sure their gear is ready. Riders are waxing their boards. Filmers are checking their batteries. Photogs are wiping off their lenses. While we all check the oil and the belts in our machines. Here's to a good winter.
